Burn Brightly by Arthur E. Knowles

Burn Brightly

Arthur E. Knowles

Sunset
summons
creeping shadows,
announcing
the approach of night.
I awaken a candle
from its waxy slumber.

This fragile light
is my lone salvation
from the hunger
of the dark.
It slowly burns,
consuming its own essence—
dripping tears of wax,
never to return.

Oh, my fleeting friend,
you will soon depart.
What then becomes of me?
Will I drown
within an obsidian abyss?

Oh, solitary spark,
take refuge within my soul.
Burn brightly in me;
burn boldly.
I promise you,
together,
our shared courage
shall light the way
to the Genesis
of a new day.
