EMBRACE LIFE, ENGENDER PEACE –
FOR THE GOD WHO LIVES IN ALL OF US
“You cannot find peace by avoiding life.” –Virginia Wolfe.
An old Bob Dylan song flashes through the mind
and I am walking through the past again—
in student marches where strident voices
are raised in peaceful protest
demanding change, demanding peace,
declaring war on the war itself.
Silly flower children that we were,
trying to sweep the world clean,
to make it ready it for a new dawn that has yet to be.
and yet,
here it is, as our progeny gather
to sing wellness to our mother earth,
bidding us to stop and join the movement,
the crest of a new wave carried from the past,
heading into the future, riding on the shoulders
of a young girl from Sweden.
While some of us will rocket to the moon and stars
to leave behind our mother planet
others will stay behind to tend to the
the planet that gives us life
continuing an ongoing battle
to set us back on the right path
the road to peace, the road to wellness.
While every day brings news of war, murder, and strife,
planted among them are stories of hope, of renewed energy
into saving what matters most.
Life. Our planet. Our animals. Our plants. Us humans.
For the God that dwells in all of us, let us help it succeed.
