Shkor Literary Magazine: A Celebration of 25 Years of Cultural Contribution
Established in 1998, Shikor Bengali Literary Magazine has been at the forefront of promoting Bengali literature and culture across the globe for the past 25 years. It has served as a vital platform for poets, writers, and literary enthusiasts, connecting the rich literary traditions of Bengal with global audiences. Though we could not celebrate our 25th Anniversary on time due to unforeseen circumstances, we are now gearing up to commemorate this milestone grandly, launching our celebrations from today and continuing over the next year.
Shikor has evolved into a prominent publication jointly published by the UK and Bangladesh, representing the vibrant and diverse voices of writers worldwide. We have consistently showcased the works of poets and writers from Bangladesh, the UK, the USA, Canada, Europe, and India, fostering a cross-cultural exchange that has enriched Bengali and global literature. Over the years, Shikor has grown beyond a mere literary magazine; it has become a symbol of Bengali heritage and a bridge for scholarly dialogue between the East and the West.
As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, we are pleased to announce that the festivities will continue throughout the following year, supported by our two sister platforms: Global Poet and Poetry and Shikor Publishers. Both platforms, established in recent years, are dedicated to multilingual literary contributions, especially in English, with translations available in various languages. Through these initiatives, we aim to expand our reach, connecting with an even wider audience and facilitating a broader appreciation of literature and poetry from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Our celebration will span multiple continents, with events planned in the UK, Bangladesh, and India (Kolkata) beginning in February 2025. These celebrations will include an exciting array of activities such as publications of special editions, literary seminars, poetry festivals, and meetings with poets worldwide. Through these events, we aim to continue bringing together voices from different parts of the globe, nurturing dialogue, and fostering collaboration between literary communities.
As we embark on this next chapter of Shikor‘s journey, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and promoting literary talent while embracing new challenges and opportunities in the ever-evolving world of global literature. The 25th Anniversary is not just a celebration of our past but also a promise to continue our vibrant work in the future, fostering literary excellence, cultural exchange, and a deeper connection with the global literary community.
In celebration of Shikor’s 25th Anniversary, we are thrilled to announce a unique initiative to highlight the voices of global poets and writers. As part of this milestone celebration, we invite you to submit your original poetry and writings for publication on the Global Poet and Poetry and Shikor online portals.
This initiative will continue until next year, culminating in a print version of an anthology featuring selected works. We encourage all creative voices to participate in this opportunity to showcase their talent.
