Poetry By Kaberi Mukherjee

Celebrate Thy Womanhood!

O’Woman! Unclip your wings this day,
Break open the shackles
Unleash your fortitude.
Let your life be illumined
By the fire of Gulmohar
Let your heart be hued
With the shades of spring.

O’Woman!
How long will ye remain subdued
How long will ye let
The imbecile customs burden your steps?
Let the fastings ye do
Bring merits to you
Let the vermillion you smear
On your forehead
Be that for your longevity.

O’Lady! Raise your voice
Against those voices
For whom you sing the lullaby
To let you breathe in open air.
Raise your voice
Against those who dictate
It’s not your home,
Apprise them this entire earth is yours.

O’Lady! The love and warmth
Ye spread to nurture this world,
To foster your progeny
Let a piece of that love
Be preserved to celebrate
Thy womanhood.
O’Woman! Celebrate thy womanhood
